Article on microorganisms and metabolites published in Nature Reviews Microbiology

Ying Wang and Trent Northen wrote a Genome Watch article published in a recent issue of Nature Reviews Microbiology. The article explores how cognitive performance can be enhanced by metabolites and microorganisms and focuses on research from across a wide range of host organisms. One of the examples is a study showing that bees exhibited improved memory when fed a specific bacteria and metabolite, from Li et al., which integrated metagenomic and metabolomic analyses.
